Very much enjoyed these interviews that Marc did! So, what did the last episode say to YOU?

My take was that to have any hope of fixing the system, you need to withdraw from it; everybody else is corrupt. Bubbles was redeemed. McNulty was redeemed, as was Freamon. Daniels was forced out and did what was honorable.

What does that say about Templeton, Pearlman, Griggs, Levy, and Dukie? Are they the next generation of the same set of problems?

Is there transcendence in conscientious objection, even if the wins are meager?

Conveniently, the WYPR online pledge form takes single penny contributions. I know what my 2008 donation is.

//If there's one thing I know, it's that you shouldn't try to bribe a hippie.//

Heh. Well-said.

A couple of minor factual corrections: Marc's last show was on Thursday (it hadn't aired on Friday for the past few years), and it's Sheila Dixon, not Sharon.

Otherwise, fair warning, we had a little parallel thought here with the Wire comparison, so don't be mad when I publish a blog post somewhat like yours in the next few days. I honestly started it before I read yours.

Best,

Chris

Hey, Dave:

Great to meet up with you today!

I like your concept of social complicity, which is extremely applicable to Baltimore, where so much palm-greasing and strange-bedfellowing happens in the shadows. Makes it a bit more difficult to point out "the bad guy" when so many individuals are linked to the same problem. In the case of WYPR, the overall management appears to be clueless as to the station's actual mission. Boggles the mind.
